27. player. 58. . Wide Receiver. Washington Commanders. Rashod Bateman

And so we’ve finally reached the Washington Football Team’s (first) pick. To recap so far, Washington traded back from No. 19, earning a 2022 second-rounder from the Ravens in the process. Now, they’re back on the board, and they can comfortably select the best player available, who happens to be at a prime position of need: Wide receiver Rashod Bateman.

Like DeVonta Smith, Bateman is a relatively steady receiver prospect, and there aren’t many bad things to say about him. I don’t think he’s quite as consistent as Smith in contested situations, but he’s still good there. Bateman also has very good athleticism for his 6-foot-2 frame, as well as exceptional route running ability and feel. Bateman would be a perfect compliment to Terry McLaurin, and he’d immediately boost the caliber of Washington’s receiver group.

Don’t go away, because this isn’t the last we’ll see of the Washington Football Team in Round 1. Just a few picks beyond this point, they make an aggressive move up, for a stellar defensive prospect.
