Washington Football Team stream-of-consciousness 7-round mock draft
By Ian Cummings
Round 1, Pick 19
Alright, here we are. Pick No. 19. There’s no time to waste. Let’s take a look at the top options available:
- South Carolina CB Jaycee Horn
- Virginia Tech OT Christian Darrisaw
- Minnesota WR Rashod Bateman
- Texas OT Samuel Cosmi
- Syracuse CB Ifeatu Melifonwu
- Tulsa LB Zaven Collins
- Alabama QB Mac Jones
- Missouri LB Nick Bolton
- TCU S Trevon Moehrig
I don’t know about you guys, but this is a tough one for me. I really like Jaycee Horn. He’s my personal CB1 above Caleb Farley, Patrick Surtain II, and Ifeatu Melifonwu. I also really like Melifonwu in spite of his slightly lower ranking, because he has arguably the most physical upside in the class.
But looking at the Washington Football Team’s needs, I don’t know if cornerback is the best fit here. Obviously, offensive tackle isn’t a top need either with Cornelius Lucas manning the left side and Morgan Moses on the right. But Christian Darrisaw is tough to pass up (even though I admittedly passed him up without shame in an earlier mock).
You could also go linebacker. Zaven Collins is low-key one of my favorite players in this class. 6-foot-4, 260 pounds, with good athleticism and very impressive instincts. I think this is too high for Nick Bolton. Love him as a prospect, and as a value deal in Round 2, if he makes it there.
Perusing other options, Samuel Cosmi is slightly below Darrisaw on my board, so naturally, he’s out of the running. I think this is a little too high for Trevon Moehrig, too. Still not quite on the Mac Jones train. I’m going to pass in this scenario. Rashod Bateman is a sneaky strong option here. High-floor receiver who can contribute and be that alpha on the boundary right away.
My finalists, after trimming down the list, are the following players:
- Jaycee Horn
- Christian Darrisaw
- Ifeatu Melifonwu
- Zaven Collins
- Rashod Bateman
Now it’s time to engage stream of consciousness mode. Just off of the top of my head, I’m leaning Collins right now. Again, I’m a big fan of his versatility and physical-mental blend as a prospect, and he’d be one of the completing pieces for an elite defense under Ron Rivera.
My Pick: Tulsa LB Zaven Collins
Who were your finalists? Who did you pick? Never mind, we gotta move on.
