Damiere Byrd, Patriots

Byrd is small at 5’9″ and 180 pounds, but has some jets on him. He ran a 4.27-second 40-yard dash at his Pro Day in 2015.

After going undrafted, he signed with the Carolina Panthers, which brings into light the Ron Rivera connection. In his three years with the Panthers, he saw a little over 200 snaps and didn’t produce much on the field.

Last season, in his first year with the Patriots, Byrd finally got a chance to be a starter and had 47 receptions for 604 yards. His 12.9 yards per reception would have tied him for third with McLaurin on the Washington Football Team.

He has also been fairly successful when he has gotten opportunities to return kicks throughout his career. Having him on the roster would not solve the wide receiver problem, but his speed could be something Scott Turner takes advantage of at a cheaper cost than Curtis Samuel.
