Despite being flush with cap space last year, the Washington Football Team didn’t opt to spend any big money in free agency on the offensive side of the ball. They made a run at Amari Cooper, but after missing out there, the team focused on adding players with experience and upside to round out there offense.

The results were pretty good. The team landed a few key contributors on these deals and helped bolster their starting lineup as a result.

Notably, Logan Thomas stepped into a role as the team’s top tight end. After previously being a backup option at most throughout his career, Thomas burst onto the scene and recorded 72 catches, 670 yards, and six touchdowns for Washington. That outpaced the totals for the rest of his career combined.

Washington Football Team’s “Logan Thomas All-Stars” for 2021

As such, I like to call these under-the-radar free agents the “Logan Thomas All-Stars”. They’re names that might not be big, but they can have an impact as Thomas did with Washington last season.

These players could easily be referred to as J.D. McKissic All-Stars or Cornelius Lucas All-Stars as well. Those two free agents emerged as big-time contributors for the team, too, but considering that Thomas was a true Wild Card that, arguably, should’ve made the Pro Bowl for his efforts, this group of players will be named in his honor.

These players will come relatively cheap and could have a chance to compete for starting jobs or key backup roles with the team. They’re not going to be exciting — neither were the team’s signings of Thomas, McKissic, Lucas, and Wes Schweitzer last year — but they could exceed expectations. Any time you can get a free agent to do that, that’s a positive.

With that said, here’s a look at some of the under-the-radar free-agent options the Washington Football Team could consider signing.
