Mike Boone, Running Back, Minnesota Vikings

I really like Boone. He is not especially big, and after a very promising beginning to his college career, his final two seasons at Cincinnati were only average. But he has good speed and he can catch the ball. The real gem in his limited profile is his outstanding vertical jump (42 inches). That is an excellent number for a running back and indicates what kind of sudden burst he has.

Boone is a classic positional glut guy. Minnesota is heavily invested in Dalvin Cook as its starting running back. They have a quality young backup in Alexander Mattison. There is almost no way they can hold onto Boone should he get a decent offer.

Tim Patrick, Wide Receiver, Denver Broncos

Coming into 2020, Patrick looked to be a good developmental receiver who offered major special teams upside. He is 6-foot-4, with decent speed.

When Bronco starter Courtland Sutton was lost for the year, Patrick really stepped up as a regular X receiver. He caught 51 balls and scored 6 touchdowns. Most importantly, about two-thirds of his catches resulted in first downs.

Patrick is not the most dynamic receiver out there, but he would look very good playing opposite Terry McLaurin, especially if you find another speed guy to play in the slot.

Denver faces an issue with Sutton returning in 2021. Sutton, assuming he returns to full health, is clearly better than Patrick. They have to pay him. So they may be forced to let a solid contributor like Patrick leave.

Ike Boettger, Guard, Buffalo Bills

Buffalo has a nightmare on their offensive line. Multiple starters are unrestricted free agents. I’ve already written about tackle Daryl Williams and guard Jon Feliciano as possible targets for the Washington Football Team. If Buffalo wants to retain any or all of their other free agents, Boettger might be the odd man out.

Boettger is 26 and has only played 18 games in the NFL. But he performed very well in that audition, under the intense pressure of a playoff run.

After starter Cody Ford went out, Boettger stepped into the offensive line and played as well, if not better than, the Bills 2019 2nd-round draft pick. It is a very small sample size, but Boettger looks like the kind of tough-minded player who can be an all-purpose interior lineman for years to come.
