Washington Football Team Free Agency Evaluation: Linebackers
Washington Football Team middle-tier free-agent options
Kevin Pierre-Louis, Washington
Kevin Pierre-Louis came to the Washington Football Team in 2020 as a free agent and he performed above expectations – at least according to analysts and many fans. He was particularly solid in coverage but struggled a bit on rushing downs.
Pierre-Louis would continue to be an affordable option for the Burgundy and Gold, but the team should not overspend to keep him. Pierre-Louis is likely to return, but only on a modest contract.

Haason Reddick, Cardinals
Haason Reddick was not good during his first three years in the league, but he was playing out of position and not to his strengths during that time. In a 4-3 defense, he is a true outside linebacker that specializes in quarterback sacks.
In a 3-4 defense (Washington employs the 4-3), Reddick was tasked with dropping back in coverage and he simply can’t compete against the receivers, tight ends, and running backs. When Reddick was used solely as a pass rusher, he was solid.
Denzel Perryman, Chargers
Denzel Perryman is one of the best run-stuffing linebackers in the league, but he is a liability in coverage. He can be a terror against any running back, but receivers and tight ends have exposed his weakness over the years.
Perryman’s lack of versatility and the inability to play on special teams will scare teams away, but no one should ignore what he can do on running downs and short-yardage plays.
Prediction: Washington re-signs Pierre-Louis to a two year, $4M contract and a $500K signing bonus.
