Washington Football Team Free Agency Evaluation – Cornerbacks
Middle Tier
Patrick Peterson
No doubt about it. Patrick Peterson has lost a step, but that is like saying a 30-year old F-16 fighter jet is slower than an F-22 or F-35. That’s true, but that F-16 can still prove to be lethal in any encounter. Just like that F-16, Peterson is still an effective cornerback, and while he can come into the game for nickel and dime packages, the days of being a full-time starter have passed. Peterson is also a superb and reliable punt returner.
Fabian Moreau
Are Fabian Moreau‘s days numbered in a Washington Football Team uniform? Probably so, but the front office should consider bringing him back for a year or two at an affordable salary. He knows the defensive schemes and the former UCLA standout has produced some good moments over the last two seasons. Five interceptions since 2019, including two in 2020, is something to consider.
Desmond King
As we said recently, Desmond King can play every position in the defensive secondary and that versatility helps him immensely. He is not a ball hawk or the best cornerback around, but King does bring above-average depth at the position. King is also a decent punt returner. He has played mostly as a slot corner in his career and that is his best position, but he does play free safety when called upon. Does he want to be paid as a slot corner or a free safety?
Prediction: The Washington Football Team could consider bringing Moreau back on a one or two-year veteran minimum contract.
