With the Matthew Stafford sweepstakes over, all eyes will turn to Deshaun Watson.

The disgruntled Houston Texans quarterback has requested a trade away from the team amid issues with the team’s leadership group. It’s unclear if new Texans GM Nick Caserio will grant that request or if the two sides will dig in for a long standoff, but until a resolution is reached, trade rumors will swirl around Watson.

The Washington Football Team will certainly have their name thrown around among teams that could be interested in a quarterback. They managed to win the NFC East last year despite starting four different quarterbacks in their 17 games including the postseason.

With Dwayne Haskins crashing and burning his way out of Washington, the team needs to find a long-term solution at the QB spot. They were reportedly in on the Stafford sweepstakes, so it stands to reason that they will at least inquire about Watson.

Of course, the Texans’ demands in any potential Watson trade will be high. As John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported, a package would require two first-round picks, two second-round picks, and two defensive starters to get a deal done.

That’s a hefty price to pay for Watson, but considering that he is a 25-year-old franchise quarterback, it could pay off. Quarterback is still the most important position in football, so some — if not, many — teams would be willing to consider taking this calculated risk to get Watson.

That includes the Washington Football Team. And they may actually be uniquely positioned to outbid other teams in one regard. They have a plethora of young starters on the defensive side of the ball to facilitate a deal.
