Washington Football Team QB Options 25-21

25. Drew Lock (Broncos)

Lock moved onto my list when Stafford and Goff moved off. I think Denver would give him up rather cheaply at this point and I admit that he has youth and some talent. But – not to get too technical here—when I watch him play, I don’t see a very good quarterback.

24. Jacoby Brissett (free agent)

I kind of like Brissett but I don’t think he fits with what Scott Turner wants to do on offense. He would be a classic bridge guy who could run the show while you are grooming his successor.

23. Jimmy Garoppolo (49ers)

Garoppolo took his team to the Super Bowl a year ago. Since then, his fall has been precipitous. Injury is an issue. Lack of consistent production is an issue. I think Garoppolo has a fairly high ceiling but I don’t have much confidence that he is going to ever live up to his early hype.

22. Marcus Mariota (Raiders)

I should make clear that Mariota, along with most of the vets listed at the bottom of this list, only makes sense if you are bringing in a high-to-mid-round draft pick to play behind him for a little while before becoming your starter. In such a role, Mariota would be fine. He is mobile and has a decent arm. He always shows flashes of what made him the No. 2 overall pick back in 2015. He just has never produced consistently in the pros, and I don’t believe he ever will.

21. Davis Mills (Stanford)

Mills is a huge question mark. He looks like a quarterback. He moves well. He has a good arm. But he has a tiny body of work to evaluate and I’m not sure what is prompting his decision to come out this year. If prospects like Desmond Ridder or Malik Cunningham were coming out, I’d probably have them ahead of Mills. Not because I think they’re better. I just think we have a better handle on what to expect from them. FYI — this is the beginning of a run of non-first-round draft options.
