Washington Football Team Free Agent Targets: Free safety
Washington Football Team: Mid-tier safety targets
Marcus Maye
Marcus Maye is very close to being a top tier free safety, but he did have two handicaps facing him in 2020. First, he played in the shadow of Jamal Adams for several years. Second, he played for a Jets team that has been stuck in the cellar of the AFC East.
Maye is versatile and can play both safety positions as well as slot corner on occasion. With the Jets having a lot of cap space for 2021, look for Maye to remain with Gang Green.

Malik Hooker
Malik Hooker would be rated higher, possibly in the top tier, if his career wasn’t so marred by injuries. He is still a very talented free safety and the Washington Football Team could sign him to a one-year prove-it deal as our own Jacob Camenker had in his offseason simulation. There would be no impact on the team cap.
It’s a tempting proposition if they are looking for quality depth, but his extensive injury history can’t be ignored. Washington is likely to look elsewhere.
Desmond King
Desmond King can play every position in the defensive secondary and that versatility helps him immensely. He is not a ball-hawk or the best free safety around, but King does bring above-average depth at the position.
King is also a decent punt returner. He has played mostly as a slot corner in his career and that is his best position, but he does play free safety when called upon. Does he want to be paid as a slot corner or a free safety? King is overrated by some analysts, but he is still a multi-talented option.
Prediction: Washington will consider Maye or King if they can’t sign one of the top tier free safeties.
