Washington Football Team promotes Jennifer King to full-time offensive assistant
Jennifer King is making history for the Washington Football Team.
On Thursday night, it was reported that the Washington Football Team would hire Martin Mayhew as their next general manager. But that wasn’t the only important news of the evening.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Washington has also promoted Jennifer King from her coaching intern spot. King will be serving as a full-time offensive assistant for the team this season.

Though the team has yet to confirm where King will be working, she worked alongside running backs coach Randy Jordan last year and found success in helping Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic develop into a solid, dynamic one-two punch at the position. So, she could continue to work with that position group.
King also has experience as an assistant receivers coach with the Arizona Hotshots, so she could help out in that area as well.
No matter what role King participates in, this is a historic hire for the Washington Football Team. King is one of just a handful of women to serve as a full-time coach at the NFL level, and she will be the first black woman to hold down such a role.
Promoting King seems like a good move for Washington. She has a good deal of experience at the NFL level and has interned for Rivera’s staff over the course of three seasons. She has certainly proven herself capable and she deserves some credit for what the team’s running backs were able to do last season. Gibson’s progression after being a receiver during college was particularly impressive, and that happened under the watch of Jordan and King.
As the old saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Washington’s running back room was the strength of their offense last season, so keeping continuity there with Jordan and King was a solid move.
And even if King has more general responsibilities across the offense in 2021, she’ll still be around to help out the team’s running backs as they continue to develop and progress at the next level.
