There’s seemingly never a dull day in Ashburn.  But truth be told, it’s like this for every NFL franchise.

We get stuck in our fan bubble and the blinders are tough to see through.  I’m certainly guilty.  We get consumed with the Washington Football Team.  There’s not another sport in America where fans are as passionate and as knowledgeable.  It makes for quite the profitable enterprise for NFL franchises, but it also opens the door to much criticism.  After all, we’re all experts, or so we think.

The news of the imminent hire of Marty Hurney as the next General Manager of the Washington Football Team has been met with resistance from fans.

Naturally, fandom runs high on emotion and recency bias.  That combination can make for a great game day atmosphere, but it’s not the type of rational thinking it takes to run an NFL franchise.

So why are fans so angry over the hire of a man who has been involved in football operations for over 30 years?

That’s easy: Kyle Smith.
