Washington Football Team’s Chase Young named NFC Player of the Month
Washington Football Team edge rusher Chase Young was named the NFC’s Player of the Month.
Chase Young had a very strong finish to his rookie regular season for the Washington Football Team. In his last five games, Young posted 17 tackles, three sacks, seven quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and a defensive touchdown for Washington. He was a big-time playmaker and helped the team to get the wins needed to qualify for the postseason.
Young is getting recognition for his superb efforts down the stretch for Washington. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Young has been awarded the NFC’s Player of the Month award and was also named the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Month for his performances.
These are accolades that Young absolutely deserves. His impact on Washington’s defense has been profound and the 2020 No. 2 overall pick was a key force in all three of Washington’s wins down the stretch.
Most notably, against the San Francisco 49ers, Young tied a career-high in tackles (6) and scored a key defensive TD for Washington in their 23-15 win. During a game where the offense scored only nine total points, Young’s scoop-and-score was critical for Washington to earn the victory, and few defensive linemen and edge rushers across the league could’ve made the play that Young did to return the ball for a score.

Beyond his role as a playmaker, Young has also emerged as a key leader on Washington and was named a captain in wake of that role being stripped from the now-released Dwayne Haskins. That just goes to show that he is having an impact on the culture change for this team and defense and that he was ready to be a leader right out of the gates.
There will likely be many more accolades of this type for Young in the future, and he figures to be a shoo-in for Defensive Rookie of the Year after his stellar performance, especially in the second half of the season.
Washington should be excited that they have him under contract. The sky is the limit for the athletic edge rusher from Ohio State.
