3. The defensive line must be special

The Washington Football Team has a clear strength of their football team. The defensive line. Over the last few weeks, they have been as advertised. The defense, catapulted by their defensive line, almost single-handedly beat the 49ers.

That was also true against the Eagles in Week 1. The defensive line mailed in seven sacks as a unit (eight as a team with a Jon Bostic sack.) They were dominant against Philly’s depleted line. That depleted line for Philly is even more-so depleted now.

Philadelphia’s two starting tackles, Jason Peters and Lane Johnson, will be out on Sunday. So will backup tackles Jordan Mailata and Jack Driscoll.

With matchups across the board against backup linemen, this defensive line needs to live up to its billing. Chase Young and Montez Sweat need to be dominant. Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne need to be stalwarts up the middle. And Ryan Kerrigan and Tim Settle need to be productive in the sub packages they come in on.

Do to Jalen Hurts, what the defensive line did to Carson Wentz in Week 1. Swarm him all game long. Make Hurts’ job as hard as possible against a depleted offensive line. In a win or go home game it is time for the investment into the defensive line to pay off.

If the Washington Football Team generates early offensive success, wins the turnover battle and the defensive line is special they set themselves up well to get a win against the Eagles and clinch the NFC East.
