Who Hurts reminds Ron Rivera of

So what exactly does Hurts bring to the table?

Coming out of college his scouting report touted him as a high-character dual-threat quarterback. Hurts led two different teams to the College Football Playoffs during his college career, Alabama and Oklahoma.

During his senior year, Hurts passed for 3,851 yards and 23 touchdowns, while completing 69.7 percent of his passes, finishing second in Heisman Trophy voting behind Joe Burrow. He also added 1,298 yards on the ground along with 20 rushing touchdowns.

Washington Football Team Coach Ron Rivera spoke highly of Hurts in his Wednesday press conference and mentioned he was someone the team had liked.

"Well, you do see that he’s a good decision-maker. He’s got a good arm and they seem to rally around him as a team. He’s got the intangibles that you look for in a quarterback. He’s a guy that coming out we liked because he’s a veteran savvy guy. He played a lot of football in college, and he played it successfully. He had some big games that he handled very well. So I think he’s a guy that’s got an opportunity to continue to develop and grow."

That’s pretty high praise for a rookie. Hurts’ scouting report compares him favorably to Dak Prescott and Taysom Hill, but Rivera saw similarities to another quarterback Washington has faced this season.

"Well, obviously, he does remind me of Russell Wilson. He really does. And I think that, you know, that bodes well for who he’s going to be as a football player in this league."

Washington’s defense was able to slow down Russell Wilson in the 20-15 loss against the Seahawks, limiting the quarterback to 121 passing yards while also picking him off once. Wilson however was able to get 52 yards on the ground including a 38-yard scramble.

Washington also was unable to get much pressure on Wilson and finished the game with only three quarterback hits and zero sacks.
