4. Add linebacker help

The Seattle Seahawks exposed a weakness of the Washington Football Team defense: Linebacker. They have a quality starter in Cole Holcomb. However, he and Kevin Pierre-Louis were out with injury against the Seahawks. Depth proved to be a problem.

The Seahawks, like other teams have done at times, gashed Washington on the ground with 181 yards rushing. This can probably be best explained due to poor linebacker play.

Jon Bostic is, at best, a good backup. Pierre-Louis is far too inconsistent. His highs are jaw-dropping and his lows make you wonder why he starts. Thomas Davis is clearly past his prime, Shaun Dion-Hamilton has been underwhelming, and Khaleke Hudson is still a raw rookie (although he did flash at times against Seattle).

With that said, this team needs linebacker help. Holcomb is showing the potential to be a really good starter in the NFL. They just need to get a guy next to him.

Washington needs better linebacker play to help their defense’s weakness: stopping the run. If not, then that will continue to be attacked on a consistent basis. If they got a linebacker who could fill this void as a true, three-down starter alongside this defensive line, not many teams would run on this defense. It could also help the nagging problem of defending tight ends this team seems to always have.

This issue should be able to be addressed in the middle rounds of the draft. The free agent market is pretty lackluster.
