Week 15 Grades and Evaluations

Offense

The offense on Sunday was anemic for the first three quarters and nearly pulled out a victory in the fourth quarter.  Struggles in all phases of the offense put the Washington Football Team in a very deep hole that it could not overcome in the end.

Dwayne Haskins was rusty in his return to the lineup and that is to be expected, but he did show considerable improvement later in the second half.

Key players on offense from Sunday’s game include Logan Thomas, J.D. McKissic, and Brandon Scherff.

Grade: C-

Defense

The defensive line was abysmal against Seattle’s rushing offense and that is where Seattle was able to take advantage on Sunday.  The secondary was absolutely incredible and limited Seattle’s star receivers (DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett) to just 77 yards combined.  Washington’s defensive backs and linebackers gave up 121 yards through the air on Sunday – very impressive indeed.

Even in a loss, the defense still found a way to have a decent game.  Key players on offense from Sunday’s game include Kamren Curl, Khaleke Hudson, Kendall Fuller, and Ronald Darby.

Grade: C

Special Teams

Tress Way had an off-day against the Seahawks and two of his punts bounced in front of the returner.  He typically has returners backpedaling, but Sunday was a struggle.  Dustin Hopkins missed an extra point after the first touchdown.  It turned out to be a huge factor in the loss.  Fans are angry and rightfully so.

Steven Sims (punt returns) and Danny Johnson (kick returns) were simply ineffective and had no positive impact on the game.

Grade: D

Coaching

At what point will the coaches be able to convince the players that the first half is just as important as the second half? The offense took a long time to come to life and the defensive line was simply overmatched by the Seattle offensive line.  The special teams unit was not prepared for this game it seems.

Washington is very fortunate to be playing in a very weak division at this time of the year, but the coaches and players need to be at their absolute best over these next two weeks.
