Not so fast

That question may remain unanswered for Washington, due to Haskins’ actions off the field. McLaurin was right about one thing, Haskins did have “a short-term memory.”

I guess he forgot that the country is in the middle of a pandemic. I guess he forgot that he had already once been fined for violating the COVID-19 protocols earlier this season.

How else can you explain him being at a party with strippers, after a loss mind you, surrounded by multiple maskless people, in a week where he would potentially be called upon to lead his team to a playoff berth? That lack of awareness and that maturity more so than anything that he does on the field is what might ultimately hold Haskins’ career aspirations back.

At a certain point, you can no longer make excuses for Haskins and forgive his immaturity. Don’t blame his age, either. Chase Young is two years younger than Haskins and has shown far more maturity on and off the field in his rookie year. Hence why one is a Pro Bowler and one has his career hanging on by a thread.

As the saying goes, actions speak louder than words, and Haskins has proved time and time again that regardless of what he says at press conferences, regardless of the apologies he makes for his actions, and regardless of the chances he gets, he just doesn’t get it.

After the 49ers game, Haskins was asked what he had been working on during his demotion period and he said the biggest change he made was on himself.

"I’m trying to prove to these coaches that I want to be a guy that can be reliable and be someone that can lead this team."

How badly does he want to prove it? His coach is immuno-compromised, his team is short-handed at quarterback, and he is out partying in a pandemic.

He’s also the first and only quarterback that Coach Rivera has had to use a wristband of plays with since he apparently doesn’t have enough knowledge of the playbook. Couldn’t he use his time better by studying the playbook and working on his game rather than engaging in post-game celebrations after a loss?
