The Washington Football Team’s four-game winning streak is over.

The Washington Football Team held the Seattle Seahawks to just 20 points on Sunday. Though their defense played well and the team was great in the second half, the team couldn’t do quite enough to earn the victory. Their four-game winning streak was snapped against the Seahawks but there were some encouraging signs from the team’s performance.

Dwayne Haskins had an up-and-down day for Washington. For the first two-and-half quarters, Haskins played mostly poorly. He had a couple of critical turnovers that really hurt the Washington offense early on.

Haskins’ first interception came with Washington still down just one score. Haskins rolled out of the pocket and had green grass in front of him. Instead of scrambling for a few yards or throwing the ball away, he launched the ball into coverage and the Seahawks deflected and intercepted it.

Though Haskins’ first pick showcased bad judgment, his second pick was worse. Washington was trailing by 17 early in the second half when Haskins stared down his receiver and threw the ball to him. In double coverage. The Seahawks broke on the ball, having followed Haskins’ eyes and managed to grab the pick.

However, after the second pick, Haskins played much better — save for back-to-back sacks on Washington’s final offensive drive of the game. He learned from his mistakes, used his legs better, and avoided risky throws that were an issue early on.

Haskins did a lot to spark the team’s offense and showcased some of his arm talent on good throws. That in-game improvement was nice to see, and it should indicate that Haskins isn’t a completely lost cause, though he has a long way to go before he can be trusted as a starting quarterback.

What really kept Washington in this game, however, was their defense. Per usual, their pass rush, featuring Chase Young and Montez Sweat, was elite. Their secondary held up strong and did every they could to limit the Seahawks’ strong receiving corps. Russell Wilson had only 121 total passing yards on the day, and that’s because Washington kept him under pressure and forced him to throw the ball away frequently.

As bad as this game looked in the early-going, Washington made a game of it. They continued to fight and scrap in the second half despite being down several key playmakers and their starting quarterback. If they were cleaner from the start, they may have had a chance to take this one home, and this is a game to build on.

At 6-8, Washington is still currently in first place in the NFC East and they will have a chance to win the division. They have winnable games upcoming against the Panthers and Eagles, so if the offense can start quicker and continue to make strides, they will have a chance to win.
