Dwayne Haskins will likely use the short passing game for the Washington Football Team on Sunday.

It wasn’t hard to imagine Dwayne Haskins would be the starter this weekend for Washington Football Team’s game against Seattle. With Alex Smith missing all of practice this week, and the Seahawks heavy favorites anyway, saving Smith for the final two games of the season was the prudent (and expected) path.

But what does it mean to tailor the gameplan around Haskins’ strengths? Will there be plays designed to have route combinations lined up such that a ball thrown over one receiver’s head goes right to the other? Will the team be calling for 14-step drops followed by jump passes? What about scramble drills where the QB only flushes to the left? From his 2020 tape, it would appear that these types of plays are Dwayne Haskins’ strengths.

Coach Ron Rivera indicated Friday that the team has tailored the gameplan for his Washington Football Team game Sunday against Seattle to maximize Dwayne Haskins’ strengths.

If you want to know what types of plays to look for this weekend from the Washington Football Team offense, look no further than Dwayne’s last start. Haskins had an average intended air yards of 4.4, and of his 314 passing yards, 206 were yards after the catch.

Haskins won’t have the benefit of Antonio Gibson in the backfield with him this week, but he is going against a dramatically worse passing defense than what he faced versus Baltimore. Expect a ton of slants and screens, expect very little play-action, and expect a heavy dose of stretch and wide zone runs out of pistol and shotgun formation.

Haskins has a golden opportunity to take a massive step toward a fresh start with a competent, professional outing on Sunday. I’m pulling for him, and Washington Football Team Fans everywhere should be, too, because if he somehow pulls out an above-average start, this team has a shot to win on Sunday against Seattle.
