This might be an odd time to make this argument, as he comes off his worst two statistical games of the season, but Terry McLaurin deserves to be in the Pro Bowl, and Washington Football Team fans should be shouting that from the rooftops.

Washington Football Team WR Terry McLaurin‘s two catches on Sunday in Week 14 against the San Francisco 49ers were enough to push him up over the 1,000-yard mark for the season, and it must not go unnoticed that there is not another receiver in the entire NFL that has played with a worse combination of quarterbacks and skill players than Terry McLaurin this season.

He thrived in spite of Dwayne Haskins’ struggles. He put up yards with Kyle Allen at the helm. He produced with Alex Smith getting his leg back under him. And while he hasn’t put up big numbers over the last two weeks, his game impact remains major.

Fighting a nagging ankle injury, Terry McLaurin has still played the vast majority of the team’s offensive snaps, made multiple key blocks, and served as an effective decoy, consistently garnering double-teams to get other guys open.

And it’s not as if Terry McLaurin hasn’t been getting open. He’s consistently been open throughout the entire season, but the offense’s progression and development has meant that Smith and Haskins didn’t have to exclusively rely on him the last couple of games.

And even with all of that adversity, he’s still Top-9 in Yards (1,001), Top-5 in YAC (460) and Top-14 in receptions among all wide receivers. He deserves to be in the Pro Bowl.

The Pro Bowl has become a popularity contest, and Terry McLaurin might be the least flashy elite wide receiver since Jerry Rice, but make no mistake, he’s got more in common with Rice than just personality. He’s a leader by example, he’s a stand-up citizen, he’s a team captain, and he’s durable.

Washington Football Team fans should be rewarding “The Captain” with a flood of Pro Bowl votes, because he deserves them.
