Washington Football Team’s three unsung heroes in a relevant December
RB J.D. McKissic
In July, Washington’s running back room was to capacity. Derrius Guice, Adrian Peterson, Peyton Barber, Antonio Gibson, J.D. McKissic, and Bryce Love were fighting for spots. It was hard to see a serious role for McKissic in such a stuffed room, especially with the talent in house.
But with multiple surprise departures, like Peterson and Guice, the seas parting made way for an opportunity that McKissic took and ran with.
From the jump, McKissic has been a real playmaker. His speed has given Washington the edge that Chris Thompson used to provide.
Of course, statistically, Thompson was a far superior weapon. But the speed and athleticism receiving from the backfield have always been a helpful tool in Washington’s pocket, and McKissic has done his part.
His ability to catch out of the backfield and make people miss has been instrumental to the one-two punch Scott Turner has dialed up with the help of Antonio Gibson. He has been the top check down target of Alex Smith, and while statistically, McKissic hasn’t been one to light up the sheet, he’s been a consistent third-down target who provides a constant boost of speed week after week.
