These unsung heroes are leading the Washington Football Team to a relevant December.

What if I told you back in July that the Washington Football Team would be playing playoff relevant football in December? I can imagine you would be quite surprised.

You would probably guess Dwayne Haskins had his breakout season and took the starting job by the horns, right? Derrius Guice had to have become a top-fve running back and gave some life into that awful offense of 2019? After all, outside of Terry McLaurin, the team is short on talent, and they don’t even have an NFL-level starting tight end.

But at 6-7 approaching the halfway point in December, the playoffs are within reach, and it has happened in every unimaginable way.

Haskins is barely making the active roster on Sundays. Derrius Guice is no longer in the league itself. Remember Alex Smith, the guy who almost lost his life in a tragic injury that ended his career? Not so fast. He happens to be leading one of the greatest comeback stories in NFL history.

Remember when everyone was saying how Antonio Gibson and Kamren Curl would be legit impact players after the draft? No? That’s because it never happened. How about Cam Sims? That’s right, the guy that they signed, released, signed again, rereleased, signed to the practice squad, released and signed back again? He’s playing the best football of his life at just the right time.

The NFC East, you know, the one with the Super Bowl contending Dallas Cowboys? They are a dismal 4-9 after Dak Prescotts season-ending injury and are a rudderless ship thanks to complete ineptitude from the new coaching staff. The Eagle’s dream of reviving Carson Wentz to an MVP caliber player is in deep trouble as Jalen Hurts now takes the reigns under center in the city of brotherly love.

Washington and New York have always been the laughing stock of the division, but just in style for 2020, they are picking up pace at just the right time. Because, like it or not, one of them is hosting a playoff game in January.

It’s time to take a look at three unsung heroes who quietly are playing their part to give Washington a legitimate shot at playoff football.
