Stud No. 5 – RB J.D. McKissic

If the Washington Football Team had been forced to play more offense against the 49ers, they would have lost — plain and simple. The defense won this one single-handedly, but even for as abhorrent as the offensive unit was, there were a few bright spots, chief among them running back J.D. McKissic.

McKissic wasn’t a widely-revered signing when Washington inked him to a cheap two-year deal in the offseason, but he’s arguably been one of their best, most versatile weapons all year, and in Week 14, he picked up the slack in Antonio Gibson’s absence.

While the offense sputtered for four quarters, McKissic was his usual efficient self, logging 68 yards on 11 carries, as well as 18 yards on two catches. He displayed very good quickness through the middle of the field, and while he missed a few open lanes, he was key in helping the offense chew up clock.

On the year, McKissic has 66 rushes for 299 yards and a score, and as a receiver, he’s been even more productive, with 58 catches for 426 yards. He doesn’t get the flashy plays on his resume, but if you ever need seven or eight yards, either to get a first down or to trim the down distance, few are more reliable than McKissic. His two-year contract is looking more and more like a steal.
