Assessing the Washington Football Team RB room with Antonio Gibson hurt.

With news of Antonio Gibson’s turf toe putting a damper on the Washington Football Team’s best win of the season, the team has a decision to make.

Turf toe is a serious injury for a running back. Older fans may recall how it put an early end to the career of Washington running back George Rogers back in the ‘80s. We don’t know how serious Gibson’s injury will turn out to be, but it seems likely he will miss at least a game or two.

There is no individual player available who can replace Gibson’s production. He was on a roll of late, looking far more comfortable running with the ball, and becoming Washington’s best touchdown threat. He provided a crucial second explosive weapon for opposing defenses to worry about. Without him, Terry McLaurin will get far more attention.

Still, Washington has options. Without Gibson, there are only two other running backs on the active roster. J.D. McKissic and Peyton Barber can combine to help offset Gibson’s absence, as they did in Pittsburgh. Barber will get some tough yards. McKissic will run a little more while remaining a genuine receiving threat. But neither is as dangerous as Gibson.

Assuming Gibson cannot play this week, Washington will certainly add a back to its active roster. Here are several likely options.
