Defensive Game Balls

EDGE Montez Sweat

You knew his name would be on the list to receive one of these coveted game balls.  Montez Sweat was a force on the defensive line once again this week and he is quickly becoming one of the best linemen in the league.  Take notice, NFL.  Sweat will terrorize quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends, and offensive linemen for the next decade or more.

It’s safe to say that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger doesn’t want to see Sweat ever again.  Big Ben will likely get his wish when he retires sometime in the next few years.

More from Commanders News

Sweat produced three more pass deflections on Monday, including a game-sealing swat that was intercepted.  For his efforts against the Steelers and game-sealing talents, Sweat is awarded the third game ball.

LB Jon Bostic

It has been a rough few weeks for Jon Bostic.  An unnecessary roughness penalty against him a few weeks ago.  Missed tackles.  Poor angles.  Getting exposed by tight ends.  Schooled by running backs.  Bostic can’t go back and change what happened along the way, but his game on Monday was rock solid.  Also, his interception late in the game cemented an upset victory over the Steelers.

Bostic would probably be the first to admit that his efforts in recent weeks were subpar, but he prefers to let his talent do the talking and it paid off against the Steelers.  If Washington is to make a playoff run over these next four games, Bostic and other veterans need to step forward and supply a healthy dose of leadership.  He did just that on Monday and for his efforts, Jon Bostic is awarded the fourth game ball.
