Washington Football Team WR Antonio Gandy-Golden to return this week?
By Ian Cummings
Could the Washington Football Team get an added boost to their wide receiver room this coming week?
The Washington Football Team‘s offense appears to be growing. At the beginning of the season, Washington’s offense was about as inept as many expected it to be. Poor execution at multiple levels rendered the unit inert, and the lack of playmakers outside of Terry McLaurin prevented the group from freeing up any space across the field.
Now, however, Washington’s offense has seen some development, and that was ever apparent in Week 13, against the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers defense.
It wasn’t a dominant offensive showing by any means; in fact, it was more of a defensive game than an offensive one. But the sheer number of offensive players that made things happen — chief among them J.D. McKissic, Cam Sims, and Logan Thomas — shows that the Washington Football Team’s roster is no longer a barren wasteland, bereft of any talent. There’s something there, and they could soon get an added boost in terms of depth.
According to ESPN’s John Keim, the Washington Football Team is hopeful that it will soon have Antonio Gandy-Golden back in the fold, to supplement a wide receiver room that’s lately enjoyed the rise of Cam Sims, to go along with Pro Bowl-caliber receiver Terry McLaurin.
Over three weeks ago, Gandy-Golden was placed on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, but now, it appears as if there’s a chance he can come back in Week 14 against the San Francisco 49ers. Washington will of course have to monitor his health as he eases back into action, but it’s reassuring that Gandy-Golden’s return is now on the forefront.
Before being placed on injured reserve, Gandy-Golden played in five games and started two at wide receiver. However, his impact was minimal. Gandy-Golden only caught one of his four total targets for three yards. He did break a big run on his one carry, amassing 22 yards on that play and showcasing some surprising zip. If the 6-foot-4, 223-pound pass catcher can get back to showing those flashes, he could fight for more opportunities alongside the upstart Sims.
Of course, the first thing on the fourth-round rookie’s to-do list is getting healthy, and that’s something he may be close to accomplishing. We’ll be back with any updates on Gandy-Golden’s status throughout the week.
