Washington Football Team Week 13 reality checks vs. Steelers
By Tim Payne
1. The Reality Is, Antonio Gibson has a chance to make a bid for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Antonio Gibson’s season got off to a rocky start when the team released Adrian Peterson to the consternation of many Washington Football Fans. He then struggled to make an impact in the running game for much of the first quarter of the season.
But he has quietly and gradually improved through the middle of the season, finally bursting onto the scene in massive fashion with a three-TD Thanksgiving Day breakout performance. With his 11 scores, he’s just two shy of the team rookie record set by Alfred Morris in 2012.
Gibson is top-12 in the NFL in rushing yards, and his 11 TDs rank third-most among RBs. If he continues his solid progression for the remainder of the season, he could easily reach 15 Touchdowns and 1,000+ yards on the season.
If he manages that and Washington ends up winning the division, he’ll be solidly in the conversation for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
My Prediction: Pittsburgh will do whatever they can to take Gibson away, but if Washington is going to keep this game close, they will need a heavy dose of Gibson at his 4.6 ypc clip. I think Gibson ends up with 18 carries for 96 yards and one TD, and four catches for another 16.
