The pressure is on the Washington Football Team.

The Washington Football Team entered Sunday’s NFL action tied for first place in the NFC East. It was expected that they might be able to remain in first place despite their game taking place on Monday afternoon.

The Philadelphia Eagles were taking on the Green Bay Packers while the New York Giants were taking on the Seattle Seahawks in Sunday afternoon action. Both the Packers and Seahawks were heavily favored and if both teams lost, Washington would maintain a half-game lead on the division even if it was just for 20 hours or less.

However, that didn’t materialize. Instead, Washington is stuck in second place after the Giants pulled off a remarkable upset over the Seahawks.

Despite Colt McCoy starting for the Giants, they were able to travel to Seattle and use their improving defense to basically shut down Russell Wilson. Alfred Morris ran for two touchdowns in a game that certainly reminded Washington fans a tiny bit of McCoy’s 2014 Monday night win over the Cowboys.

So, the Giants are now 5-7 and Washington is 4-7. The WFT get to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday and now, it’s clear that the pressure is on for Washington.

If Washington is going to stay in the divisional race, they’re going to have to eventually overtake the Giants. They were swept in the season series by the Giants, so if they are tied in the standings at the end of the season, the Giants will go to the playoffs.

Essentially, if Washington loses to the Steelers, they will have to make up two games of ground on the Giants. One to tie the standings and one to overtake the Giants to avoid losing the tiebreaker. That’s possible to do, but in a four-game span, it leaves little margin for error.

It’s going to be hard for Washington to beat the Steelers and even if they don’t, it will be fine. Still, no matter how you look at it, the pressure is going to be on Washington to deliver a win either against the Steelers or 49ers in the coming weeks. If they can’t, they’ll fall out of the divisional race.

That may not be the worst thing in the world for Washington, as they’ll have a shot at a higher draft pick if things don’t work out. But there’s no doubt that the team will fight hard and if they can play meaningful December and, possibly, January football, it will be a big-time positive for this rebuilding team.
