Washington Football Team: Mini-bye mock draft sees team target Alabama defender
Washington Football Team mini-bye mock draft.
The “mini-bye” week is here and Washington Football Team players are taking advantage of a needed break once again. However, the business of running a football team never ends, including making plans for the following season.
Following Washington’s victory on Thanksgiving Day against Dallas, the team has been given some extra time off, especially with their game against Pittsburgh moved to Monday. With that bit of time that we have for now, why not have one more in-season mock draft?
Yours truly decided to take a break in the action and focus on the upcoming offseason for a day. Our focus for the moment shifts to college prospects that will be trying to impress pro scouts in the coming days, weeks, and months.
Washington Commanders
Yes, it is time for another Washington 2021 mock draft and while it still seems a little early for one, we need to realize that team scouts are currently very busy at work. This is the time of year when they labor earnestly to find the right prospects to draft next April.
Here is what we said a few weeks ago.
"Finding the right fit for Washington through the draft is never easy and for mock draft analysts, it is not about finding a popular player or a personal favorite. It’s about finding the right players and trying to get in the minds of the WFT brain trust to see what they may do next April. Free agency will have an effect on the draft, but trying to find players that are a fit through the draft is something that we will attempt to accomplish today."
Current team needs include a complementary wide receiver, tight end, offensive linemen, quarterback (future prospect), cornerback, linebacker, and free safety. That is quite a list and it is why free agency will also play a role.
For purposes of this mock draft, we are projecting that Washington will finish the season at 5-11 and secure the seventh overall pick in the draft. The WFT has picks in the first, second, third (two picks), fourth, fifth, and seventh rounds (two picks).
For our mock today, we will feature one trade during the draft. We won’t spoil the surprise for now – you will see it as we go along. Keep in mind that mock drafts in late fall look much different than mocks in the winter and spring.
We have a new feature to share with you today. In each round, we will list the prospect of choice and five other possible prospects as well. With that in mind, let’s get right to it!
