1. RB Antonio Gibson

There’s no question that the recent resurgence of the Washington Football Team’s offense has been keyed by Antonio Gibson. The rookie has been a stud for the team in recent weeks and is proving that he has what it takes to be a star at the NFL level.

Gibson has a five-game scoring streak going during which he has logged eight touchdowns including a 115-yard, three-TD game on Thanksgiving against the Dallas Cowboys. He has been explosive, but even more importantly, his ability to finish near the end-zone has been huge. Washington will rely on both of those skills against the Steelers.

This season, the Steelers have been rock-solid against running backs. They’ve had a couple of tough games, but their 877 rushing yards allowed to the position ranks as the seventh-fewest allowed this year. They will certainly be keyed in on stopping Gibson often, as they know if they can render Washington one-dimensional they will have a good chance to beat them.

It also will help the Steelers’ cause that they are getting defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt back from the COVID list. He’ll be able to help clog running lanes and make it difficult for Gibson to get going.

By all accounts and angles, this will be a difficult matchup for Gibson and it will be the biggest test of his young career to date. Washington needs him to continue generating yardage to have a chance to score against the Steelers, so Gibson will be the top player to watch.

If he gets going, Washington should at least be able to compete with Pittsburgh. If not, it could end up being a very long day for the Washington offense.
