The future of the Washington Football Team is now.

The future of Washington Football is now and I’m going to appreciate every second of it.  Here’s why:

“I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days before you’ve actually left them” – Andy Bernard.

As a kid, I grew up in an era when the Joe Gibbs lead Washington Redskins were one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl year after year.  During a 10 year span from ’82 to ’92 Washington reached the Super Bowl four times, winning three of those games.  They had the best overall record over that time period and were considered the gold standard of the NFL.

However, everything has a beginning and Joe Gibbs’ first season with the team wasn’t exactly a snapshot of the success the team would see.  In1981, Gibbs’ Redskins started the season 1-6.  The team did come together to end the season 8-8.  But this was a franchise that now had only made the playoffs once over the previous 7 years.

What happened over the next 10 years was magical, but how long did it take before Washington fans realized they were in the midst of the glory years?  As someone who lived it, I’ve got to admit that I took it for granted.  Not sure I ever truly appreciated the greatness while in the moment.

Granted, I was a young kid and had a very different perspective on life.  But as an adult, I’m going to appreciate this process from the beginning and enjoy every second of it, including the tough times.  Even the legendary Joe Gibbs had tough roads and hurdles.
