With an increased snap count due to an injury, Washington Football Team defensive lineman Tim Settle has risen to the occasion.

In Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns, the Washington Football Team lost one of its most valuable and underrated players in defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis with a torn bicep. The injury left a huge void on the interior for the Washington Football Team, as Matt Ioannidis was the most consistent player on the interior when it came to generating pressure.

A player that has improved every year for the Washington Football Team, but gets overshadowed due to a crowded defensive line room — Tim Settle — has filled that void. A player that is mostly known for being a run stuffer, Settle has stepped up against the pass this year. With a still rather limited snap count (about 25 a game), he has totaled 4.0 sacks on the season, including one this past week against Cincinnati.

Granted, sacks never tell the whole story, but it is impressive nonetheless. This shows his technique is finally catching up with his freakish size and athleticism. So why does this matter? Tim Settle is proving he could start on most teams. His value to both the Washington Football Team and the rest of the NFL is rising.

Keeping Settle as solid depth in the future is a viable option. He is proving to be really good depth on an already deep defensive line. An interesting dilemma the Washington Football Team will face this offseason is what to do with Tim Settle. With Ioannidis hopefully returning to full health, he may again be lost in the shuffle behind Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, and Ioannidis.

With his improved play this year, a team in need of interior defensive linemen may offer a nice trade package to the Washington Football Team for Settle. It would be something to consider, given that 2021 is Settle’s contract year.

However, that is a debate for a different time. What matters in the moment is that Tim Settle has been given an opportunity and he has taken advantage of it. He will be a crucial part of the Washington Football Team finding success this year in its quest for the NFC East crown. Tim Settle, a former fifth-round pick, has developed into a solid defensive lineman.

Settle has taken advantage of his limited opportunities this year. Everyone loves to focus on the plethora of first-round picks this defensive line has, and rightfully so. But do not forget about Tim Settle. He is quietly having himself a very productive year for the Washington Football Team.
