Washington Football Team Dud: The NFC East

Speaking of Washington’s chances of winning the NFC East, they improved dramatically thanks to their win over the Bengals.

Yes, the 3-7 Washington Football Team is in the thick of a playoff race. That’s how bad the NFC East is. I won’t belabor this point too long, but the 3-6-1 Eagles are atop the division now while Dallas, New York, and Washington are all within striking distance. It’s truly anyone’s game at this time.

That is both good and bad for Washington. On one hand, they’ll be in the playoff race late in the season and that will help the team to develop playing in games that actually matter at this point in the season. On the other hand, if they do backdoor their way into the playoffs, they aren’t likely to last long and will find themselves picking in the latter half of the first round. That’s not ideal for a rebuilding team.

In the NFL, you take any chance you can get to win a division title or make the playoffs. It’s not something that’s guaranteed to happen often. But again, when looking at this Washington team and comparing them to other potential playoff teams, they’re clearly weaker than all the others. And the same can be said of the other NFC East teams.

If Washington makes the playoffs this year, fans will certainly cheer hard for them and hope they can earn what has been an elusive playoff victory. But in any other normal season, they wouldn’t be playoff contenders. They only are thanks to the state of the NFC East.
