Washington Football Team: Five players to watch vs. Bengals
By Ian Cummings
No. 1 – WR Cam Sims
Week 9 was the preview. That was the day on which Cam Sims the NFL starter became a possibility. On that day, Sims caught three passes for 110 yards against the Giants, putting up massive volume with a small target share.
Week 10 was the affirmation of that possibility. Sims came in, with everyone asking questions about who he was, and he again served as a crucial part of the offense, catching four passes for 55 yards, all of which went for first downs, some in high-pressure situations.
Now we can say, with reasonable confidence, that Cam Sims might be legit. He has the frame, he has the toughness, and now he’s starting to apply his traits with consistency. He’s proactively earned the team’s WR2 role, and now, with two consecutive weeks of success behind him, WR2 production will be the expectation moving forward.
Sims has at the very least proven that he can be a rotational piece of the receiving core for years to come. Now, it’s time for him to take the next step against a banged-up Bengals secondary, and prove he can rise an extra tier.
