Stud No. 1 – QB Alex Smith

We’re grading on the sentimental curve a bit here, but it’s impossible not to be inspired by Alex Smith‘s Week 10 performance. A year and a half ago, there was a chance he wouldn’t even keep his leg, but against all odds, he not only rallied back to the football field, but gained his starting position back in Week 10, and passed for a career-high 390 yards in his first start since the injury.

Yes, Alex Smith wasn’t perfect. He missed a few downfield throws, and it was clear that, when faced with pressure, Smith didn’t have the comfort or the ability to resurrect broken plays. Smith likely doesn’t make the Washington Football Team an NFC East contender this time around.

With that being said, however, Smith’s progression through four quarters and his increased willingness to take shots downfield contributed to the team’s comeback in the second half, and I’m willing to bet that Smith’s presence alone makes a difference for this young squad. Providing an example of resilience resonates most, and there’s no better example than Alex Smith after yesterday’s game.
