The second-place Washington Football Team —  a phrase that no fan of the team expected to still be saying this late in the season.

But here were are, still watching a Washington Football Team that, though infuriating in its inconsistency and failure to beat Daniel Jones and the hapless Giants, is still in the hunt for a playoff game.

As I argued last week, good franchises don’t get swept by bad teams. And make no mistake, the Giants are a bad team. But Washington, despite failing that test, still gets to entertain dreams of making the playoffs, due to how atrocious Philadelphia and Dallas have been this season. And this week, they have the opportunity to bounce back against Adrian Peterson and the Detroit Lions.

Favored by only 3.5 points, the Lions are certainly not a juggernaut. Can Washington get a win to stay relevant, or will they go quietly into second half of another lost season? Let’s find out in this week’s version of Washington Football Team Reality Checks.
