No. 1 – Alex Smith gets his first win of 2020

Antonio Gibson will definitely be important against the Lions’ subpar run defense, but as has been the case all season, the Washington Football Team’s outcome in Week 10 will be largely dependent on the play of the quarterback. This week, it’s Alex Smith making his first start since November of 2018, when he suffered his catastrophic leg injury against the Texans.

Smith wasn’t perfect in his second week of substantial action; his three interceptions played perhaps the largest part in sealing the Giants’ 23-20 victory. But there were also glimpses of promise; Smith showed more confidence stepping back on his recovered leg, and he also put some good velocity on a few downfield passes.

Now, Smith has one-hundred percent certainty that he is the quarterback of the Washington Football Team once again, and he can go into Week 10 preparing as such. It’ll take time to get chemistry with some of Washington’s new weapons, but Smith’s veteran command of the offense could make a big difference, provided he continues to grow and get more comfortable back out on the field.

The Lions are a good opponent for Smith to face in his first start back; they have a habit of getting in their own way, just as Washington does, and if Smith can draw in more of his efficient traits, he can lead the Washington Football Team to a much-needed win, and officially announce his return to the NFL gridiron with an exclamation point.
