No. 2 – Chase Young gets 2.0 sacks against Tyrell Crosby

By pure sack numbers, Chase Young hasn’t been as good as his hype suggested he’d be. In this case, I’d implore you to look past the sack numbers, because Young has indeed been as good as he was hyped up to be.

Despite having just 3.5 sacks in seven games played, Young has been a force for the Washington Football Team’s defense. He’s generating pressure at a near-elite clip, and that’s with extra attention from teams each week. Last week, the Giants triple-teamed Young on some occasions, and he still came away with a quarterback takedown and two more QB hits.

Young has been playing at a high level since the start of the 2020 season, and I’m banking on the possibility that one of these weeks, his high-level play will translate into a new career-best performance. This week against the Lions, he has another chance to make that happen.

Tyrell Crosby has been better than expected as the Lions’ right tackle, but pass protection is still the weaker part of his game, and Young, a quicker threat with good play strength and flexibility to boot, should be able to get the better of that matchup by preventing Crosby from placing his hands effectively. If Young gets some one-on-one looks, he could make life harder for Matthew Stafford.
