Geron Christian is out, per the Washington Football Team’s injury report.

Once again, the Washington Football Team will be without their starting left tackle for a game. Geron Christian will miss his third consecutive game as he continues to deal with a knee injury.

ESPN’s John Keim reported that Christian would be out along with receiver Dontrelle Inman (hamstring) and linebacker Jared Norris (hamstring). Additionally, receiver Jeff Badet and kicker Dustin Hopkins will be questionable.

Of the injuries, Christian’s has the biggest impact. He is the team’s starter at the tackle position, after all. Without him around, Cornelius Lucas will start once again. Lucas has played similarly to Christian, but the bigger problem is with the team’s overall depth.

Lucas had been serving as the team’s backup tackle, but with him starting, that role will instead fall to David Sharpe with Saahdiq Charles (knee) still on IR. If Sharpe has a hulking 6-foot-6, 344-pound frame, but he doesn’t have the athleticism needed to keep up with quicker players. If he has to play, that would be bad news for Washington, as he wouldn’t be able to properly protect Alex Smith.

Meanwhile, the other major injury to note is that of Hopkins. If Hopkins can’t play, Washington will have to use practice squad kicker Kaare Vedvik in his place. Vedvik has one game of NFL experience. He kicked for the Jets in the 2019 opener, missed a 45-yard field and an extra point, and was cut after the game.

While Vedvik’s resume may not inspire a ton of confidence, he has a big leg and has rare versatility as a kicker and a punter. If Hopkins does sit and Vedvik impresses, it’s possible that the 26-year-old Norwegian-born player could push to replace him as the starting kicker.

We’ll see if Hopkins is inactive, but any time there’s kicker news, it’s a big deal.

As for the absences of Inman and Norris, they aren’t huge deals. Norris is just a depth player on special teams while Inman has been a starter at times this year but the emergence of the likes of Cam Sims and Isaiah Wright was bound to cause his role to decrease anyway. Inman’s absence will hurt in terms of depth, but the production can be made up.
