Washington Football Team: Five observations at the halfway point
1. The offense needs more talent
Halfway through the season and it is clear what is holding the Washington Football Team back. It is the clearly inept offense. Due to a lack of talent, chemistry, and overall inexperience, the Washington Football Team ranks at the bottom in almost every significant category.
It has pieces to build around like Terry McLaurin, Antonio Gibson, the right side of the offensive line including Chase Roullier, and even J.D. McKissic has been solid. Cam Sims has shown promise but the volume is far too small to make any broad claims on Sims.
Past these pieces I listed, every other place can be improved. The left side of the offensive line will most likely need a revamp. McLaurin needs a good running mate. The team needs a tight end. And, oh yeah, did I forget that their franchise quarterback is not on the roster?
The offense is extremely subpar, it has been at times horrible. It lacks talent, plain and simple. Having a first-year play-caller, Scott Turner, has not helped matters.
However, if I can narrow down this point to one big observation it is this: this team needs its franchise quarterback. The offense needs an influx of talent, yes. However, a franchise quarterback changes everything.
It imperative that the Washington Football Team finds its quarterback this offseason. A quality quarterback makes everything easier. An improving defense and budding star Terry McLaurin coupled with a quality quarterback could catapult the Washington Football franchise into a perennial playoff contender.
With a quarterback, I would argue this team is a good team. It is imperative they not only find their guy this offseason but also get an influx of talent into this offense. It is crucial. It’s time to end the continuing quarterback carousel in the nation’s capital.
