I’m a little late with this post-mortem, and maybe you’re all done with complaining about a Washington Football Team game several days in the past. But I appreciate you giving the chance to get a few last-minute barbs out of my system before moving on to next week.

Maybe the worst thing about the Washington Football Team’s 23-20 loss to the New York Giants is that it confirms this team has not made the forward strides that seemed within reach by the midpoint of the 2020 season. Everyone knows the talent level on WFT is below average and that they are not going to beat most teams – certainly not teams in the upper echelon of the league – for another year or two at best.

But I think some of us would like to believe that the glaring incompetence that has characterized Washington’s football franchise for most of Daniel Snider’s tenure is beginning to fade. Poor preparation, bad decisions, sloppy play – those issues were supposedly being addressed by a more professional administrative and coaching staff.

Perhaps it is too much to ask that this change happen all at once. But to see such an inept performance against a team from the bottom quarter of the league is very discouraging. The fact that it comes off a bye week – in a week in which your opponent has short rest – makes it all the more glaring.

But enough of that. Let’s just check off a few specific takeaways.
