Entering the Washington Football Team’s Week 9 tilt against the New York Giants, wide receiver Cam Sims had tallied 88 yards over his three-year NFL career.

By the end of the day, Sims would more than double that mark.

On an otherwise disappointing day that saw the Washington Football Team lose to the Giants 23-20 and lose quarterback Kyle Allen to a devastating ankle injury, Sims represented an offensive bright spot. Sims racked up 110 yards on three receptions, the first career 100-yard game for the Alabama alumnus since his entry into the league after the 2018 NFL Draft.

The biggest play of the game for Sims came early in the third quarter, when quarterback Alex Smith found a wide-open Sims on the sideline for a 45-yard gain. Sims beat Giants defensive back Jabrill Peppers off the line of scrimmage, creating over five yards of separation. The play jumpstarted the Washington offense, leading to an Antonio Gibson rushing touchdown that would help give the team a chance to come back late in the game.

Later in the third quarter, Sims made the highlight reel again with a 33-yard grab that saw him evade numerous defenders after the catch. The Washington Football Team would score again on that drive, courtesy of a Dustin Hopkins field goal.

In his postgame press conference, Cam Sims credited his increased confidence and chemistry with Washington’s quarterbacks for his breakout game:“My confidence level from last year is way higher this year. The [quarterbacks] trust me, all the [quarterbacks] trust me now, so that’s it.”

All four of Sims’ targets came after Smith entered the game, with Smith looking to the 6-foot-5 Sims as a deep passing threat. After the game, the veteran quarterback Smith discussed Sims’ preparation during the week on the practice field in his postgame press conference.

Smith said about Sims: “I think Cam has done an amazing job at just staying ready. He does it every day in practice. He’s been getting more and more opportunities, and rightfully so.”

Sims, who has started the last two games for the Washington Football Team, will look to continue his breakout performance on the road next Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Washington won its most recent matchup against the Lions last November, the second of three wins during their otherwise underwhelming 2019 campaign.
