The Washington Football Team didn’t make any big moves during the NFL trade deadline, but nonetheless, they have an intriguing, young receiver ready to make this team debut on Sunday.

That would be Robert Foster. Just before the team’s Week 8 bye, they scooped up Foster from the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad where he had been since being waived by the Buffalo Bills on eve of the season. Now, he joins Washington in hopes of rekindling some of the magic from his rookie season in 2018.

Back in ’18, Foster, then an undrafted rookie out of Alabama, emerged as a legitimate deep threat for the Bills. He grabbed 27 passes for 541 yards and three TDs and looked like a potential top target for Josh Allen in the years to come.

Then, things changed as the Bills elected to sign John Brown and Cole Beasley and Foster saw his role decrease. And after Stefon Diggs was acquired during the 2020 offseason, the writing was on the wall for Foster.

Still, Foster is just 26 and he’s healthy, something that wasn’t often the case in 2019, so he could emerge as a contributor. He’ll also add a new element to the Washington offense, as the team doesn’t really have a true deep threat in their receiving corps outside of Terry McLaurin.

Foster could start his Washington career with a bang and should get playing time with Dontrelle Inman doubtful for Sunday’s game. If Foster can catch a 50+ yard touchdown, Washington fans would surely get more excited about the young ‘Bama receiver. It should be possible as Scott Turner will probably look to set up a shot play to him at least once on Sunday.
