5. Logan Thomas throws a touchdown pass

It’s gotta happen at some point, right? Logan Thomas was once a starting quarterback at Virginia Tech and he was drafted in the fourth round by the Arizona Cardinals to play that position.

Of course, things didn’t work out for Thomas a quarterback and so he switched to tight end. He is in the midst of a career season and has already set career-high numbers in catches, yardage, and touchdowns and figures to continue to be a big part of Washington’s passing game after averaging 5.7 targets per game in the first half of the season.

That said, it may make sense for Washington to dial up a trick play for him at some point where he can play the quarterback position. We’ve seen these types of plays work in the past near the goal-line for teams and current Colts tight end Trey Burton has been especially effective as a runner/passer in those spots.

Perhaps Thomas could find some similar success with the ball in his hands. After all, he has a massive 6-foot-6, 250-pound frame and is a good athlete, so teams will view him as a threat to do some damage as a runner, but because of his passing ability, Washington could pull a fast one and have him throw the ball.

Coming out of a bye week, Ron Rivera and Scott Turner will have had some extra time to expand the playbook. Perhaps they dialed up a trick play for Thomas to throw the ball at this point. If so, using it against the Giants would be a good idea, as Washington could keep them off-balance on defense by calling a play like that.

We’ll see if Thomas gets a chance to throw the ball on Sunday. But as we said to open this, it’s gotta happen at some point, right?
