A mock draft for the Washington Football Team during their Week 8 bye.

The bye week is here and Washington Football Team players are taking advantage of a needed break, but the business of running a football team never ends, including making plans for the following season.

With the season at the halfway mark (or very close to it), we have decided to take a break in the action and focus on the upcoming offseason for a few days.

Today’s focus shifts to college prospects that will be trying to impress pro scouts in the coming days, weeks, and months.  Yes, it is time for a Washington 2021 mock draft and while it may seem a little early for one, we need to realize that team scouts are currently very busy at work.  This is the time of year when they labor earnestly to find the right prospects to draft next April.

Finding the right fit for Washington through the draft is never easy and for mock draft analysts, it is not about finding a popular player or a personal favorite.  It’s about finding the right players and trying to get in the minds of the WFT brain trust to see what they may do next April.

Free agency will have an effect on the draft, but trying to find players that are a fit through the draft is something that we will attempt to accomplish today.

Current team needs include quarterback, wide receiver, tight end, guard, linebacker, and free safety.  That is quite a list and it is why free agency will also play a role.

For purposes of this mock draft, we are projecting that Washington will finish the season at 4-12 and secure the sixth overall pick in the draft.  The WFT has picks in the first, second, third (two picks), fourth, fifth, and seventh rounds (two picks).

For our mock today, we will feature two trades.  First, we are projecting that Dwayne Haskins has been traded for a fourth-rounder.  We are also forecasting a trade during the draft.  We won’t spoil the surprise for now – you will see it as we go along.  Keep in mind that mock drafts in the fall look much different than mocks in the winter and spring.  With that in mind, let’s get right to it!
