Washington Football Team: Why missing out on Eric Reid isn’t a big deal
Why Washington won’t miss Reid
Let’s be clear, this is a player who hasn’t heard a peep from any team since March, yet when a former coach called him with an opportunity, he turned him down.
Is he too good for the practice squad? Apparently, he thinks so, or that’s what he told the AP on Tuesday.
"“I just don’t think playing on the practice squad is reflective or indicative of my career.”"
With COVID-19 alive and well, it’s a unique time in the NFL. Many veterans have humbled themselves and taken a practice squad spot with teams around the league.
Below is just a handful of the veterans that have been signed to practice squads around the league. Note: Some have already been cut from the practice squad, while others have moved up to the active roster.
- WR Dez Bryant, Baltimore Ravens (3x Pro Bowl, 1x 1st Team All-Pro)
- DB Marcus Gilchrist, Baltimore Ravens
- S T.J. Ward, Arizona Cardinals (2x Pro Bowl)
- CB Prince Amukamara, Arizona Cardinals
- RB Lamar Miller, Chicago Bears (1x Pro Bowl)
- LB Manti Te’o, Chicago Bears
- S Damarious Randall, Seattle Seahawks
- LB Mychal Kendricks, Seattle Seahawks
Rivera is always one to throw a challenge out to players, so was this a test for Reid? Was it to see if Reid still had that fire to prove himself and work his way up? Maybe.
I mean, does Reid not have enough confidence in himself to think that he could replace Troy Apke on the Washington Football Team’s active roster in a matter of weeks? Does he not have the patience to see how Kamren Curl performs as the starter, knowing he might get his shot in a few weeks? Apparently not, and I think Washington fans are fine telling him, “Bye Felicia,” as a result.
