Washington Football Team: Five positives and negatives from Week 7 win
Postive No. 4
Guilty as charged! Yes, the “Five and Five” articles have been critical of Logan Thomas throughout the season and yours truly was on the verge of calling him a bust recently. That started to change last week and now someone is eating a healthy serving of barbecued crow. At least it tastes good, and Thomas has proven over the last two weeks that he does belong.
The 6-foot-6 Thomas used his lofty frame on Sunday to make some spectacular catches, including second-quarter catch and run for a 15-yard touchdown. Has Logan Thomas turned the corner? It looks like it for now, as he was a superb positive against the Cowboys.
Negative No. 4
The fourth negative does involve Dustin Hopkins once again, but the focus for this complaint actually centers on other players. Late in the first quarter after a 12-yard touchdown run from Antonio Gibson, the Washington Football Team kicked off and Tony Pollard of the Cowboys returned the ball 67 yards to the Washington 34-yard line. Four plays later, the Cowboys kicked a field goal for their only points of the day.
It would’ve been nice to have a shutout, but the kickoff was a low line drive and the coverage was poor. Yes, the Hopkins kick was a factor, but the Washington special teams coverage was even worse. In a close game, that could’ve been a much bigger mistake and it is a negative from Sunday’s game.
