Wide receiver Robert Foster was recently signed to the active roster by the Washington Football Team from Green Bay’s practice squad.  What kind of impact may he have with Washington?

On October 22, the WFT signed Robert Foster after some injuries were depleting the receiving corps.  Foster is something of an unknown to many NFL fans, but we are going to introduce this young receiver today and mention some intriguing things about the former Crimson Tide prospect.

First, let’s talk about the measurables.  Foster is 6-foot-2, 195 pounds.  He has been timed at 4.4 in the 40-yard dash.  His 20-yard shuttle and three-cone times were impressive as well.

Foster received a lot of attention several years ago coming out of high school.  He was considered to be the second-best wide receiver in the nation, only behind Laquon Treadwell.  Foster was highly recruited by all of the best programs in the country and he settled on Alabama.

He quickly found himself low on the depth chart with receivers like Amari Cooper, DeAndrew White, Ardarius Stewart, Cam Sims, and tight end O.J. Howard on the roster.  In the coming years, Foster had to compete for playing time with the likes of Calvin Ridley, Trevon Diggs (receiver during his freshman year), Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, and Devonta Smith.  If that is not enough, Foster was constantly battling injuries during his time at Alabama.

To his credit, Foster did not transfer or complain about the circumstances.  In 2018, the Buffalo Bills decided to take a chance on the young prospect and Foster spent some time on the practice squad that season.  Nearly halfway through the season, Foster was promoted to the roster and here is what happened.

Foster made the most of his opportunity and had quite the impact as an undrafted free agent.

During that small window of opportunity, Foster would go on to catch 27 passes for 541 yards and three touchdowns.  If you’ve done the math already, that is 20 yards per catch.

Foster was well on his way to success, but the Bills had other plans.  They signed a few free-agent wide receivers after the 2018 season and Foster rarely saw the field in 2019.  To his credit, he took the same high road as he did in Tuscaloosa and never complained.  Fair or not, that is life in the NFL for some prospects.

Prior to the 2020 season a few weeks ago, Foster was signed to the Green Bay practice squad.  His football career still had plenty of life and it was time to make the most of a new opportunity.  That renewed chance grew a bit more when the WFT signed him to the roster and now he has another possibility of making his impact via the Burgundy and Gold.

Foster has the talent.  He has the pedigree.  He has a solid sample of work in the NFL – even if it is somewhat limited.  Foster can stretch the field and that will certainly help receivers like Terry McLaurin from dealing with double coverage throughout an entire game.  Foster also has a good intermediate game and will be very effective on quick slants and wide receiver screens.

All he needs is a chance to make his mark in this league.  He has that chance with the Washington Football Team.  This chance is very realistic.  Robert Foster has the opportunity to shine with the WFT for many years to come.  Don’t be surprised when it actually happens.
