Stud No. 1 – LB Cole Holcomb

The Washington Football Team has been searching for long-term answers at the linebacker position, and Cole Holcomb may have announced himself as their best chance on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

Holcomb was electric on defense. He flew around the field, accumulating five total tackles and a pass deflection, and he also earned a crucial interception that kept the Cowboys from scoring before the end of the first half.

What Holcomb will be remembered for most, however, is his third-down sack on Andy Dalton. Holcomb was sent up the middle on a blitz, and when Ezekiel Elliott looked to block him, he didn’t flinch.

Instead, with his sub-4.5 range, Holcomb charged downhill and trucked Elliott at full speed, then bounced right into Dalton and dragged him down. Holcomb literally went through Elliott to get to Dalton, and he went the NFL equivalent of viral.

Holcomb is an elite athlete, and now that he’s back on the field and starting for Washington, his impact at the second level is that much more clear. Holcomb, who’s just 24 years old, has perhaps the highest potential of any Washington linebacker, and with any luck, this is just the start of his ascent.

Also, shameless plug: I totally called this in my bold predictions (It was the one prediction I got even remotely right).
